Meta cracks down on Australian teen accounts

Meta Says It Has Taken Down 756,000 Australian Teen Accounts as Ban Enforcement Looms The Australian government's decision to ban social media companies from allowing teens under 16 to create accounts has sent shockwaves around the world.

In response, Meta has deactivated over 750,000 suspect accounts in just six months.

Since December, Instagram and Facebook have been particularly affected, with 462,000 Instagram and 294,000 Facebook accounts taken down as part of Meta's efforts to comply with Australia's landmark law.
